windler butterfly park
Butterfly Park is a 4.5-acre neighborhood park planned for the Windler Community in Aurora, Colorado. This vibrant park is nestled at the high point of the community and is at the center of four adjacent neighborhoods. The park’s focal point is a playground inspired by and developed around Eric Carle’s beloved children’s book, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” It features unique play equipment that showcases a butterfly’s life cycle, including cocoon play structures, slides, and climbing areas.
PCS Group has been working with a local artist to develop large-scale sculptural elements that enhance the theme of the park. These larger-than-life pollinators are suspended above and throughout the playground and gardens. A meandering garden was designed to provide food sources for pollinators throughout the growing season, which is especially important when fewer flowering plants are available. By displaying these processes for park visitors, we hope to instill a sense of awe and wonder for the natural world and the importance of supporting the flora and fauna in our local communities.
