Prospect Village Community Park
Prospect Village Community Park is a planned 8-acre oval-shaped park in Sterling Ranch. The park’s vision is focused on elevating the inclusive nature of the space and creating a regional asset for both Sterling Ranch residents and neighboring communities. By including inclusive elements that focus on the needs of all people—those with physical challenges, as well as the needs of the family and support groups around them—playgrounds and parks can be community amenities that unite and bring joy to people of all ages, from all walks of life.
On the park's east side, a pool and central gathering area are perched atop the high point, providing spectacular views of the mountains and the park below. The pool has been designed with inclusive elements such as a zero-entry walk-in feature, which allows easier access for children, seniors, and individuals with differing abilities to enter and exit the pool. Below the pool is a large turf field sized to accommodate soccer, active recreation, and organized community events. The north end of the park provides additional recreational opportunities with a basketball court and a small turf area for lawn games. An inclusive playground planned with equipment made for various ages and abilities sits just south of the pool. ADA standards require all playgrounds to be “accessible” for those with physical disabilities but do not necessarily focus on the playground amenities or equipment. By contrast, inclusive playgrounds focus on the needs of all people, including typically developing able-bodied children and those with developmental, intellectual, cognitive, sensory, and physical challenges.
Prospect Village Community Park is envisioned as a place that is welcoming to everyone. The inclusive nature of the pool and playground will strive to foster social inclusion and allow children to experience a sense of belonging, actively participate in the community, and share spaces where empathy and friendships blossom.
