O’Brien Park

O’Brien Park is located in the downtown district of the Town of Parker on the north side of Mainstreet and east side of South Parker Road. PCS Group has been working with the Town of Parker on streetscape improvements for O’Brien Park to address and enhance pedestrian safety since 2015. After several delays over the years, construction of the project was completed earlier this month.

The intent of this project is to alleviate, and in the future prevent, safety concerns regarding pedestrians crossing Mainstreet from the south edge of O’Brien Park. This design proposed a series of cast-in-place concrete walls, painted steel architectural elements, and a layered planting design to redirect pedestrian circulation and inhibit park users from crossing Mainstreet mid-block to adjacent businesses or vice versa. These walls vary in height to add a dynamic component to the design and have sections of integrated seating facing inward to the park, on a redesigned walk and plaza space. The next layer of interest is introduced through curved steel fins that flow through the landscape bed, adding an artful element to the design, and acting as another level of barrier to the street. An additional barrier is created through the planting design with a mixture of trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, and perennials. The landscape serves to soften the concrete and steel elements and visually communicate with users to proceed to the crosswalk to cross Mainstreet.
