On the Boards: Windler #WLAM
Windler is an 850-acre mixed-use, master planned community in northeast Aurora ideally located along E-470, just 5 minutes from DIA and 30 minutes from downtown Denver. Envisioned as a modern homestead, Windler has been planned to create a sustainable, diverse, and connected community that blends residential, civic, and commercial activities. Rather than employing the traditional, formulaic approach to community planning, core team member Civitas suggested a more novel approach and visualized the whole of Windler as a singular park where the entire network of streets, boulevards, plazas, parks, walkways, and linear greenways, even front yards, have been imagined as a diverse, interconnected park.
At Windler, we are redefining what a park is and how its boundaries are perceived. Windler’s distinct neighborhoods are woven into a rich tapestry—of homes, parks, urban spaces, streets, seams, and landscapes—unified by linear parkways that connect North Park, Discovery Park, Butterfly Park, and 1881 Park to the larger community, creating one continuous park system, designed to foster social gathering and promote a strong, sustainable community. We see Windler as the intersection of nature and urban vitality, the integration of home and community, the place where the modern is influenced by tradition, and most important of all, the place that families call home.
To that end, we’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some great design firms to realize our collective vision. Civitas and Superbloom have been tremendous partners in developing the fabric of high-quality parks and open spaces that define Windler. What we’ve been able to achieve together is truly unique!
