Flex Space: The Mint

The flexibility of a space refers to its spatial adaptability. Flex spaces are strategically designed to create an environment that has the capacity to adapt to a variety of activities and uses. These spaces are responsive by design and have a generally fluid configuration that allows for it to be seamlessly changed according to the needs of users.

At the Mint, a multifamily community located in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood, our team developed a courtyard design that has the ability to perform multiple functions and maximize the value of a shared community space. The courtyard features an area that can be used for eating and grilling, which creates the possibility of using other human senses in communicating with the space. This area also includes moveable furniture and shade structures that can be arranged to accommodate the size of a party or activity being pursued. Pathways within the courtyard provide route flexibility, increasing the user’s right to choose, as well as nodes along the way that offer areas of respite for more intimate experiences.
